What is Art Therapy
Art Therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses the creative process of making art to improve a child’s physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. The creative process involved in expressing one’s self artistically can help children resolve issues as well as develop and manage their behaviors and feelings, reduce stress, and improve self-esteem and awareness. Art therapy is suitable for children they do not have to be creative or good at art. Children don’t need to be talented or an artist to receive the benefits, art therapists work with the child to explore the underlying messages communicated through their art.

How Art Therapy can benefit children
Children are naturally creative, and it is usually easier for them to draw a picture as opposed to answering questions directly. Creating artwork is a non-threatening venue allows kids to talk about tough issues in a creative way. Talking to the children about their drawings or paintings and helping them interpret their art can provide art therapists with the opening they need to get at the heart of the problems affecting the Child.

Art therapy can help children relieve stress, increase awareness of self, and develop healthy and effective coping skills.
